Faced with increasing energy needs and
with the threats weighing on our environment,
the world aspires to energy supply that
is compatible with sustainable development.
Hydroelectricity can satisfy this requirement:
it already supplies 17% of the world’s
electricity production; its economically
usable potential is considerable, particularly
in emerging countries that require most
energy; its environmental impacts are small
and increasingly well controlled by technological
progress.
In Grenoble, cradle of hydroelectric power,
industrial firms, consultants and academics
have created Hydro 21 to work towards this
goal.
Encourage the development of hydraulics
Hydro 21 is an association
intended to better do to know the potential
of competences of the Grenoble area in hydraulics
and hydroelectricity.
Its members come from industrial and design
offices, higher education institutions in
engineering, University and private laboratories,
research centres and they represent more
than 1500 people working in this activity.
Hydro 21 aims at :
making
the Grenoble’s training capacity
in hydraulics and hydropower better
known.
supporting
the researches which contribute to
the development of hydropower.
promoting
hydropower as a means for sustainable
development.
